La Cena

Preparing the table for dinner tonight. Having some friends coming over to cook some fabulous pasta with “fungi porcini”. The name porcini means “piglets” in Italian. Not only do they taste good (nutty), but also they’re good for you. They have a high protein content, which makes them a great meat substitute in vegetarian dishes. When buying fresh, make sure you purchase only young ones.
A cap that is dark, soft or has spots is to mature for eating. Make sure to check the underside of the cap too. Enough on porcini, I think.
“Il secondo” will be osso buco, it’s cross-cut veal shanks braised with vegetables, white wine and broth. To end all these delights will be a classic Tiramisu, “lift me up”, which I think will be much needed after all that food.
